Where There's a Will, There's a Way

View of auctionImagine multiple tents, a large barn and grassy areas covered by collectibles that had been purchased, traded and stored for a lifetime. Then, think about the seven storage units, a house and safe deposit boxes these special items needed, to be protected and kept handy for when the owner wanted to look at them, trade them or sell them.

He was single and spent his lifetime amassing an extraordinary collection of coins, games, toys, marbles, sculpture, photos and more. All because he had a passion for them and they caught his eye.

Now, the Lord called him home. At first, the attorney who had to work through all of this "stuff" thought there was no will. Finally, after contacts with multiple attorneys, a current will was found and the work of cataloging and setting up those tents and tables and barn at the auctioneer's place happened.

Concordia Lutheran High School received half of the net proceeds from the sales—yes, four auctions.

Most of 2018 was filled with the work needed to finish this task. His collection made a difference in the lives of the hundreds who attended the auctions and their purchases have now impacted the students and faculty of Concordia.

What about you? I know that my wife and I are already thinking about our "stuff" and what will happen when we retire and move, hopefully for the last time. Will our children want our collectibles, or will they say, "No, thanks?"

Planning for those days is important. Do any of us want to burden anyone with going through and determining how to sell our treasures or give them away?

Whatever you decide, however you wish to manage your plans and estate and will, understand that someday, someone must take care of what you once treasured. Could it make an impact for someone or an organization?
